Six-year-old Down’s syndrome sufferer goes viral with dance video

A young girl with Down’s syndrome took social media by storm last week in a viral video which saw the six-year-old show off her impressive dance moves.

Ana Malaniuk, from Alberta, Canada, was previously turned away from Canadian dance schools for not being ‘up to standard’, but the six-year-old extinguished doubts worldwide with her heart-warming video – which went viral early last week.

The video, which sees Ana dance to a mashup of songs by pop acts Whitney Houston, Fatman Scoop and Walk The Moon, has attracted more than 14,000 views and 1,600 shares on social media site Facebook.

Ana’s mother, Sonja Malanuik, told Canadian news reporters of her bad experiences attempting to enrol the six-year-old in dance schools in their local community.

“We were told she wasn’t welcome, she wasn’t to their standards,” she said.

However, Sonja has since found success enrolling Ana in Amanda’s Academy of Dance, near their home town of Edmonton, Alberta.

The viral video features Ana in session at the academy, alongside dance teacher Shea-Lyn.

“To see her on the stage, to see her with the teachers, to see her happy… It’s amazing to see that people are willing to give her a chance,” said mother Sonja.
